Dear Max,
The National Science Centre is having an exhibition on Leonardo Da Vinci's works. He was a great designer, engineer, inventor, scientist, builder and artist but is nowadays more well known for having his name in a novel and a Hollywood movie.
They had working replicas and models of many of his mechanical creations like his interpretation of an Archimedes screw, an ornithorpter, a cog wheel lantern mechanism, an eccentric cam driven hammer, an aerial screw, a primitive anemomether, his famous flying machine (machinna volante), an automatic blocking mechanism, a primitive helicoidal mechanism, a clever bridge made of interlocking sticks called an emergency bridge (Ponte Salvatico) and a mechanism that translates circular motion to linear called transformazione del Moto Circolare, but most importantly, they had this photo gimmick that lets you take pictures of yourself as Mona Lisa.
