My dear 15 readers,
I know it's been a year since I've written anything I can be proud of on BigBigPlanet.com. I've been getting all kinds of queries about the site. Am I going to close it down? Am I going to quit writing? Am I satisfied with the state of the world?
I'm not sure I have any answers. I've not been reading or watching the news for about a year now. I don't think I am happy with the state of the world. In a way, I should be happy that there has been so much to write about, but in a way, it's depressing to think that no matter how much we rant and rave and poke fun at things, nothing really changes… not really. I used to think that humour was powerful, but sometimes, it feels that no matter how much we laugh at the stupidity, the world will still go to war looking for 'Weapons of Mass Destruction', John Howard will still get re-elected and people will still buy Jennifer Lopez CDs.
I blame my girlfriend too. She's been so nice and forgiving, she's made me want to be nice and forgiving too. Sometimes, I can't stand myself. I was going to write some nasty movie reviews to fill up the past few months but then I just let it slide. That seems to be all I do nowadays - just let things slide. Maybe I really have gotten soft. It makes life a lot easier, but it makes writing really difficult, at least for me. My girlfriend's really messed things up for me. Just watch - I'm going to write something really skewed and nasty about her this week. Look out for it on the site.
I guess I'm still fighting to find some sort of equilibrium between being nice and being the editor of this site. People ask me why I can't write positive things. I don't know. I haven't learnt to, I guess. I don't know if I can.
Oh yeah, also up on the radar is an article on our dear friend Stephen R. Covey, the famous author of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Apparently, he's written a book called the 8th Habit, so you can be sure he will receive the BigBigPlanet treatment.
