Day 1 - May 24, 2008: Auckland

Max slept well on the plane ride. I didn't sleep at all.
We arrived on a beautiful morning. This was taken out of the cab window on the way to our hotel.
The room was nice at the SkyCity Grand, but this was the view out of the huge glass window. The hotel was practically empty, so it was possible to move to a room with a view, but it was going to cost NZ$35 extra a night. We stayed put.
We went for a short walk. The Sky Tower was right outside the hotel.
Souvenir shops were everywhere. We walked into one and found some interesting stuff. This is a GolfCross ball. The game was invented nine years ago by a Kiwi who decided to combine two popular games in New Zealand - rugby and golf.
Also, many products revolved around kiwifruit. You could get kiwifruit soap...
kiwifruit and vodka truffles...
golden kiwifruit chocolates...
green kiwifruit chocolates...
kiwifruit scented candles...
two varieties of kiwifruit jam...
special spoons to eat kiwifruit with...
and kiwifruit candy.
We also found some other candy with interesting names. We didn't try any though.
In the evening, we took the ferry to Devonport.
