JETI REX-5 Plus Receiver

31 July 2007

This is a 5 channel, single conversion airplane receiver that I've found works very well with my land RC vehicle applications. They come in air frequencies (35Mhz, 72Mhz) and land frequencies (40Mhz, 75Mhz). It's small, cheap and get the job done nine times out of ten.

Tiny little bugger. It's served me well in many vehicles in combination with many ESCs and servos. Only two times did I encounter problems with it. The first time was when I realised the frequency crystal flies out quite easily when my buggy took jumps. Some servo tape took care of that for the rest of that race. The 2nd time was when a friend ran a Tamiya TEU-101BK esc with it. That ESC did not have a BEC and passed the entire voltage of the main battery pack to the receiver (when fully charged, over 8 volts!). The RX5 only worked for a few laps and then started glitching. When the ESC was swapped for one with a 6V BEC, the receiver performed perfectly again.
Size comparison next to a Sanwa RX-311. It measures 31mm X 17mm X 9mm. Althought it is smaller in every dimension, it could take up a little more mounting space lengthwise because the servo leads exit through the sides. The crystal is a regular sized crystal. Mine worked well with a Sanwa FM transmitter but there might be another version of the REX-5 Plus for Futaba transmitters, so ask to make sure you get the right version.

ESCs that I've successfully run it with: LRP F1, Mtroniks RV11, Futaba MC330, Moped V16 Bravo.
Servos that I've successfully run it with: Futaba S3003, Futaba S148, Bluebird BMS-706MG.
Places I've successfully tested it: Indoor carpet tracks (small and large), bashing on the beach.
Definitely doesn't work with: Tamiya TEU-101BK ESC.

Conclusion: It's small, it's cheap and it works. That's about all the things I look for in a receiver. Grab one to try.
